  • Lovely cottage in a fabulous location. Walks on the doorstep and 10min walk to Porlock high street. House was clean and tidy and smelt fresh. Owner has equipped it with everything u may need.
A lovely base to see devon and somerset. We took the toll road and the views were amazing. Hopefully we will be back next year

  • A lovely time at the Quarry cottage catering for all your family needs especially with little kids. Excellent location to visit the delights Somerset and Devon has to offer and beautiful local walks. The cottage is beautiful with that cosy cottage feeling - would highly recommend

  • Yet another wonderful week in Quarry Cottage, Porlock. We return time and time again, in every season and are never disappointed. Lots of space, great garden - fully enclosed for the dog. Boot room, which we definitely need after all the fantastic walking on the doorstep! Little stroll down the land to the pubs and tea rooms in Porlock village. Already looking at sorting next stay! Thanks Sarah 😊

    — Sarah , 31 Jul 2020
  • We had a super stay at Quarry Cottage, just perfect - comfortable, quiet, well-equipped, wonderful walks straight from the door. What more can you want? Highly recommended!

    — Pat Dobson, 09 Oct 2019
  • Had a lovely break at Quarry Cottage with our five Lurchers. The cottage had everything we needed and more. Even though we know Porlock well we found more to explore. The car didn't move all week. Definitely will return

    — Stephen Henson, 19 Sep 2019
  • Stayed at quarry cottage again for the second time this year and had an amazing time and still finding new places to explore with the dogs, couldn’t ask for a better accommodation and location, will definitely be returning

    — John, 10 Sep 2019
  • Quarry Cottage is a well appointed cottage. It is nicely furnished and the kitchen well equipped.
It is great for dogs as the entrance hall is great for dirty dogs that have been out walking. Perfect for the marvellous walks, quiet but near to the shops.
One of the best cottages we have stayed in and a really nice welcome pack

    — Sally Andrews , 10 Sep 2019
  • Really lovely, comfortable cottage; ideally located for our mountain bike weekend. A bridleway at the foot of the entrance that leads all the way up on to the Moors (a beautiful climb through the woods). Cottage has everything you need for a cycling/walking trip plus Porlock itself is great - choice of places to eat plus local shops.

    — Alan Redman, 09 Jul 2019
  • We spent our second stay at Quarry cottage and had a wonderful holiday. Everything is catered for in the cottage and it has a lovely garden to sit in. It is in a beautiful location with walks from the door and the amenities of the village nearby. The wider area is easily accessed if you want to drive out. The Selworthy/Bossington area is lovely to visit with excellent tea rooms and walks. We will definitely be returning to the cottage with our family.

    — JOHN CREES, 22 May 2019
  • We had a wonderful family stay here over the May bank holiday. The cottage was really well equipped, especially the kitchen. A lovely garden too to sit in. The cottage was in a great, scenic and quiet location for embarking on walks and the welcome pack provided on arrival was really lovely. We would definitely stay again!

    — Kelly, 09 May 2019
  • A delightful spacious cottage in a delightful medieval village. Communications with Sarah were easy, and we had a nice care package ready on our arrival. Best equipped kitchen ever. Even had a BBQ which is a must for Canadian visitors. Could hear the babbling brook from a bedroom window. Beds were great. Lots of space in the house. We had a big people mover, so getting into the driveway took a 32 point turn, but we made it. Lots to see in the neighbourhood. Don't miss the Tarr Steps in the Exmoor.

    — Gaylen Racine, 01 May 2019
  • Spent Easter weekend at quarry cottage, by far one of the best cottages I’ve stayed in, the cottage itself was very nice and well equipped with every thing you need, also in the most amazing location perfect for long walks and hikes, will definitely be returning.

    — John, 28 Apr 2019
  • What a find, absolutely gorgeous cottage it was perfect even the weather was perfect. The cottage is well laid out and cosy, even towels and bowls for the dogs. We stayed for a week in March with our 2 grandchildren (5 & 3) and 5 dogs (4 of ours and our daughters) while they went off abroad her for 30th birthday. Our son and his fiancé also joined us for the weekend. The hamper was a lovely touch something in it for all of us even the dogs. Walks from the doorstep, garden games for the kids and the toy cupboard they thought they were in heaven. We parked 2 cars and a trailer on the driveway, my husband even reversed the trailer still attached to our Ford Kuga into the drive with some manoeuvres so it can be done. We didn’t want to go home we had a chillax holiday even with the grandkids. Would highly recommend this cottage and we’ll be back. Thank you so much. Jean and Dave Harle

    — Jean Harle, 08 Apr 2019
  • Brilliant Cottage, clean and excellent facilities. Lovely walks for the dogs from the door and helpful host. Spacious and homely. We have stayed in many cottages in the area and this in undoubtably our favourite.

    — Rhiannon , 01 Apr 2019
  • We have stayed in several holiday homes in Porlock and Quarry Cottage is the best by far. A gem of a cottage and everything we want in a holiday home, quiet, spacious, comfortable and well equipped with a dog secure garden. Superb location with fantastic walks from the doorstep (dog was particularly spoilt !) and a selection of pubs, cafes and shops within easy walking distance. Despite some miserable weather (mid winter...) the woodburners, books and DVDs ensured a lovely relaxing week, we will be back. Chris, Pete & Reilly the dog

    — Peter Connon, 20 Feb 2019
  • Our second Christmas at Quarry Cottage and third stay so far.! We absolutely love staying here, it feels like a home from home. Plenty of room to relax and all the mod cons you could possibly need to enjoy a break on Exmoor.
We had additional human and doggie guests for part of the week and they loved it too.
Our dogs were equally excited to be back which goes to show everyone has a great time. Well what’s not to love with walks from the door and the amenities of Porlock.
Hoping to come back again sometime this year. Very glad we found this cottage as it’s ideal for dogs as the garden is safe and secure which many holiday homes promise but don’t always deliver.
    Highly recommend Quarry Cottage.

    — Rachel, Jon & dogs, 01 Feb 2019
  • Quarry Cottage made our holiday perfect. The cottage is in a tranquil spot with walks directly from the door but just a 10 minute stroll into Porlock. It is beautifully fitted out with everything we could ever need, including books and games. Dogs loved it too. We hope to return.

    — Clare Colmore, 25 Jan 2019
  • This is our second year here , we love this cottage it is so comfy and well equipped warm and cosy, great enclosed garden and walks with dogs on your doorstop and walk to the sea too what more could you want !.

    — Lesley Mack, 10 Dec 2018
  • My friends and I enjoyed our weekend break in October at Quarry Cottage with our dogs. It’s tucked away off a beaten track, so quiet and we can walk straight out of the door onto the footpath that takes you through the woods. The cottage is very clean, simply furnished, very comfortable with a nice welcoming log burner which was lovely when we got back from a long day walking. Would definitely come back again. Thank you for a fabulous stay.

    — Daniella, 10 Dec 2018
  • We always try and get a short winter break combining a traditional family get together and Quarry cottage is perfect. Well equipped kitchen and a dining room the seats eight around the table comfortably, along with a cosy fire...much laughter resonated around this delightful house...or that should read 'home'. It really is a 'home from home' - the beds are incredibly comfortable, with crisp white linen and towels that almost float away they are so thick and fluffy. You drift off to sleep with the soporific sound of the river and in our case, the rain that fell steadily at night. Its situation is perfect, quiet and a short walk into Porlock. Having visited several times we receive a warm welcome back at The Ship and local shops, one feels instantly comfortable and at home. Our four legged family members are instantly settled, and after a lovely walk, assign themselves prime space in the comfort and warmth of the wood burning stove, then dream of their adventures. I can wholeheartedly recommend Quarry cottage, the owners are very helpful and accommodating ensuring your stay is a memorable and pleasant one. There is a lot of literature and information, CD's and plenty of games for younger members of the family. We look forward to our next visit in 2019

    — Karenand Paul, 10 Dec 2018
  • We had a fantastic holiday in porlock and at quarry cottage in August this year! This is our third or fourth stay at quarry cottage and it never disappoints. The cottage is lovely and has everything we need for our two year old! Definitely be back!

    — Katie Norman, 30 Oct 2018
  • We had a lovely week staying at Quarry Cottage. The cottage is very well equipped and the welcome pack filled with lots of goodies was much appreciated. To be able to go on walks, following a different route each day, straight from the cottage, without having to use the car for us was such a bonus. Also, it is a pleasant, short walk into Porlock where there are shops and good cafes.

    — Alison, 12 Oct 2018
  • We had a fantastic stay in the Cottage. Very clean, confortable and well equipped for everything you (or your dog) need. The location is great with many walks available from the Cottage. The whole area is beautiful. The Village center is within walking distance and a park with a dog exercise area too (great for first thing in the morning). The welcome pack was a nice touch and gratefully received. The only one thing we would point out is that if you have a large car it takes a few maneuvers to get into the drive and if you have a bike rack you will have to unload the bikes and remove the bike rack before trying to get the car in. Luckily, it is a quiet lane. We'd love to be back soon.

    — Pilar FUENTES, 24 Sep 2018
  • Third time staying at this wonderful house in our favourite place in the country. The house is so well equipped it has everything you could think of and more, the treat hamper left for us on arrival is always welcome and lovely gesture, including treats for the dogs , wonderful fresh eggs, a bottle of sparkling wine, fudge, milk etc etc. We asked after we arrived for an extra stair gate and this was provided almost immediately. The beds are very comfortable, we shall definitely be back. Thanks again

    — Lorraine Stead / Norman booking, 09 Sep 2018
  • Well equipped cottage a few minutes walk from the village centre and from Exmoor footpaths. Very clean too (despite evidently being dog-friendly) with a lovely peaceful feel. Loads of downstairs space, one large bedroom and two smaller, though still doubles, upstairs. Driveway big enough for 2 cars but tight access may be tricky for particularly large vehicles.
Exmoor is great for walking & mountain biking, and has plenty to offer to children of all ages.
We had a brilliant fortnight holiday and would not hesitate to book again if in that area.

    — Simon Baker, 06 Sep 2018
  • A beautiful cottage in a really lovely setting. Everything we needed was provided and the place was very welcoming, made even more so with a delicious welcome hamper containing prosecco, milk, eggs, fudge...lovely. A great location for dogs as masses of walks into the woods right from the front door. We really enjoyed our weekend and will definitely be back.

    — Elizabeth Meyer, 06 Sep 2018
  • It has all been said in previous feedback. Ten out of ten. We enjoyed it tremendously and the area is to die for.
    Many thanks
    Peter Hird

    — Peter Hird, 13 Jul 2018
  • Second visit and the cottage is as good as we remembered. Extremely well equipped throughout for both humans and dogs in whatever weather. Well situated for good walks straight from the door, as well as being a good base for exploring. Looking forward to our next visit to this most welcoming of cottages.

  • We had a lovely stay at Quarry Cottage. It was warm and welcoming, especially nice in February. Thanks to Sarah for the welcome pack, there was even a treat for our dog.
Porlock is a friendly village with lots of amazing walking. We will definitely return.

    — Wendy Pettitt , 22 Feb 2018
  • Another fantastic holiday in Porlock (we think it was about our 10th). We were so looking forward to being back again at Quarry Cottage and sharing it with family this time. We spent Christmas week here and it was so lovely to arrive and find the decorations up ready for our break and the welcome treats so thoughtful, everyone was considered including the four legged family members.
It's such relaxing home from home with all the comforts and mod cons you could possibly need to ensure a relaxing time for everyone. The dishwasher was such a bonus especially when there were 6 staying for some of the days.
I love that the garden is properly secure for our dogs and if you don't want to use the car there are fabulous walks from the door. This year we were lucky enough to get some snow too which made a walk up to Hawkcombe Head so beautiful. Coming back and lighting the woodburner afterwards for a cosy evening infront of the TV was appreciated by dogs and humans!
Hoping it's not too long before we can come back again for our next break, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Quarry Cottage to anyone wanting to explore the area - its the perfect base.

    — Rachel, Jonny & dogs - Tess, Benson & Ghillie, 07 Jan 2018
  • We have been staying at Quarry Cottage for many years, such a beautiful, peaceful location yet within walking distance of the shops & pubs. The cottage is of a very high standard, warm and comfortable with private parking. Many glorious walks direct from the door. No hesitation in highly recommending.

    — John & Tessa, 03 Jan 2018
  • We have just had the most perfect New Year break at Quarry Cottage. It is on the doorstep of endless, beautiful walking routes - both inland and coastal. The cottage is equipped with everything you will need, and more - as you will find in the welcome pack. We enjoyed the log fires, comfortable beds and the shower had endless supplies of hot water. Our dogs also enjoyed their stay - the garden is totally secure so they were safe at all times. Thank you Sarah for allowing us to share your wonderful home.

And there are some super walks right from the cottage. A wonderful part of the country to explore and relax in. Thank you.

    — Susan Sutcliffe, 20 Nov 2017
  • This is the most perfect holiday cottage. The enclosed garden is fantastic and I was happy to let the dogs run free. The kitchen is better equipped than my home one. The walks as soon as you go out the gate are fabulous. We will be coming again next year we loved it Thank you

  • The best accomodation we ever had. A very quit spot, perfect for starting outdoor activities but also very nice for relaxing indoors for a while. We spent a week with two mountain bike enthusiastic boys (12 + 14 yrs) - and they loved every single day!

It really is a place to relax and enjoy the stunning location and with so many wonderful places to walk the dogs, you can't fail to come home and simply say, that was a great holiday! We will definitely be back!

Lots of space for people and dogs, lots of walks, friendly village, goodies on arrival, lots of information about things to do and everything you might need from DVD's and books to kitchen equipment and dog towels. • Lovely, warm and welcoming on a damp March day. Boot room ideal for dogs and people to shed wet coats. Beds sooooooo... comfy. Kitchen really well fitted out. A home from home.

Good walks can be made straight from the cottage if you don’t want to take the car out. Local Porlock shops well provisioned and helpful.

Do go to The Visitor Centre in Porlock. It’s one of the best I’ve seen.

  • Had a wonderful week in Quarry Cottage Porlock it was just what we look for in a holiday cottage. The village is within walking distance, a log fire to keep us warm in the evening and beautiful walks to the sea and in the countyside.

    — Jenny Robinson, 14 Jan 2017
  • (Oct 2016) Fantastic stay at Quarry Cottage. Everything was provided for a truly relaxing break. We have been visiting Porlock and the area for years and this is now another reason to make us want to come back. Great that the garden was properly secure for our dogs and with so many lovely walks and the amenities of Porlock itself, I can't recommend it highly enough. We can also recommend an excellent walk from Dunster Woods through fields and tracks and back across moorland to Bat Castle, this was a new one for us this year - didn't meet a soul other than Exmoor ponies and a herd of red deer - truly tranquil and stunning views.

    — Rachel, Jon & dogs, 30 Oct 2016
  • We had two nights at Quarry cottage, so the family could go to my sister's party in Porlock. Six adults, one 16 month toddler and a Labrador dog. We really enjoyed our stay, cot, high chair, stroller and stair gate all available,in a very comfortable, clean spacious cottage. We hope to come again for longer, and will certainly recommend the cottage to our friends and relatives.

    — Andrea Candlish, 20 Oct 2016
  • We have been staying in cottages in Porlock for at least 10 years and this is the best one ever.
So perfectly suited for people who love walking and have dogs.
Having a bathroom and shower room makes it ideal for grown up families.
The cottage is very cosy and stylish.
I would recommend it to anyone without hesitation.

    — Barbara Neale, 19 Oct 2016
  • We loved our stay at Quarry Cottage, it excelled our expectations. When we arrived we was made to feel very welcome with a hamper and a personal card. Would highly recommend! Also, the best fish and chips at Piggy in the Middle is just a short walking distance from the cottage.

    — Aimee, 18 Oct 2016
  • Quarry Cortage certainly didn't disappoint! The cottage itself it extremely comfortable with every possible homely touch. The location is superb. Our family of five and dog have enjoyed a lovely week here and would certainly recommend the cottage to anyone thinking of this area. The cottage is very spacious, the details don't even mention the very handy boot/ dog room and the lovely "snug" room full of books, DVDs and games all of which made our stay very relaxed. Fab welcome package is a lovely touch after a long drive. We very much hope to visit again to explore more of this beautiful area.

    — Becky Adams, 25 Aug 2016
  • Just back from a fantastic stay! What a lovely cottage! Very dog friendly, and human friendly too! Very conformable stay and we are already looking forward to going back again. Hamper on arrival was lovely, and added bonus of some fresh eggs!
    Everything was very thoughtful.
    Thank you so much :)

    — Holley party , 29 Jul 2016
  • We stayed at Quarry Cottage for 4 nights with our border collie puppy Tegan. The cottage was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. It was quiet and easy to relax and unwind - a true home from home. The garden was secure for the dog and lovely to sit in to enjoy the peace and some much needed sunshine. The location is just wonderful. An easy walk down to the shops and pub, The Top Ship, where we had a lovely meal - in fact the best fish and chips we have ever had! Also you can walk straight out of the Cottage door to some stunning walks which Tegan (and us) really enjoyed. The surrounding area is gorgeous too with lots of great walking and places to visit. We went to Dunster beach and then to the village for lunch at the Luttrel Arms and a wander around - all fab. We look forward to visiting Porlock and Quarry Cottage again in the near future!

    — Vikki, Chris & Tegan the dog, 27 Jul 2016
  • Wow what a lovely cottage, it had everything we needed and more. Our party included 3 adults of different ages, my 10 year old son and two dogs. The facilities were second to none. It has a feeling of tranquility and calm. We all slept really well.

Fabulous walks straight from the cottage, peaceful and quiet and just perfect. The welcome goodies were very thoughtful and perfect. Have tried to book again but because it's so great it's all booked up!! Will book again as I had a very happy stay.

    — Winkie Spiers, 15 Jun 2016
  • Our fourth visit and again Quarry cottage is indeed 'home from home'. The cottage is immaculately clean and is well equipped. The beds are lush, cosy and inviting, once in...hard to get out! The weather was....April! Typical April showers with a chilly breeze, but the sun did show itself and when it did it was lovely and warm in the sheltered garden. We never want to go, and always consider how to perhaps stay just ' one more night'. But work and commitments bring us back down to earth, and there is always another day to visit again.
The welcome pack is a lovely touch and makes a guest feel valued.
The owners are 'lovely', they genuinely want your stay to be a special one, and it always is.
Porlock itself is a lovely village, with plenty of quaint shops and interesting characters. Enjoyed several meals at the Top Ship who are always welcoming and accommodating.
The neighbours at Quarry cottage are very friendly and helpful.
Quarry cottages is indeed a magical place, where stress's are forgotten and peace and tranquillity is enjoyed. We shall be back soon. Thank you.

    — Karen, Paul and 2 mad Springers, 19 Apr 2016
  • Our stay at Quarry Hill Cottage was 1st class.
A well presented warm cottage with all needs catered for,in a wonderful location.
    A credit to Sarah.

    — The Nightingales, 06 Apr 2016
  • We enjoyed a wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage which was superbly equipped with everything one could need. A true home from home. The village was friendly and welcoming with all the necessities. From the door we took amazing walks up the hill through Hawkcombe woods and down the hill across the salt marshes to Porlock Weir. Resulting in tired but happy dogs. Further afield we would recommend the river walks from Watersmeet and Tarr Steps. Sarah and Peter provided swift support and we will definitely be back!

    — The Browns, 26 Mar 2016
  • great cottage, everything you would need there to hand and great welcome pack, lovely and warm and welcoming place . great for walks and local village pubs etc . all in all had great newyear with family and friends 29/12/15 will stay again thanks

    — Nicki Black, 06 Dec 2015
  • A very comfortable, warm and spacious cottage to come back to. Very clean and well-furnished. The welcome pack was much appreciated. Great walking from the doorstep and well located for wider trips along the coast or across Exmoor. Good choice of pubs who did nice food within walking distance (especially the Top Ship). All in all a lovely place for an autumn break.

    — John Byrne, 22 Nov 2015
  • We spent a wonderful week in Quarry Cottage this Autumn and couldn't have been happier to have stayed there. The occasion was an early celebration of a special birthday of my husband and we were joined by our sons, their other halves and our new granddaughter, plus Ollie the collie. Our every need was catered for and the cottage was cosy and warm and in a lovely quiet location.
We very much appreciated the welcome tray which even included a treat for Olloe! We have no hesitation in recommending Quarry Cottage and hope to visit again at some time in the future. Thank you Sarah.

    — Judy Brown-Jackson, 21 Oct 2015
  • Had a fantastic week here. The photo's on this site really do not reflect what a lovely cottage this is. So very well equipped and in one o f the most stunning places I have ever been too. We will definitely return next year.

    — Jan campbell, 25 Sep 2015
  • Lovely cottage in an idyllic position for a break with my canine companions. Never stayed anywhere with such amazing walks right from the door. Porlock itself is a lovely, friendly village.

    — Ruth Parker, 24 Sep 2015
  • Very short break here but what a lovely place to stay.Gorgeous setting , Cottage and village.
Even though it was August it was still chilly enough due to our non existent Summer!.to warrant the lighting the Woodstove in the cosy living room.
The welcome pack too was well received by us and the dog!
Would definitely recommend to anyone wishing to visit this area.

    — Sally, 03 Sep 2015
  • We had an absolutely brilliant Holiday, staying at Quarry Cottage was the icing on the cake! The attention to detail was superb. You covered every single aspect. We hope to have another lovely stay with you again in the future.Thank you so much.

    — Stacey Dayman , 16 Aug 2015
  • Quarry Cottage lived up to its promise and indeed exceeded our expectations. We all found it comfortable, well- equipped and attractive. We were able to make use of the private and pretty garden and it would not have been a problem to spend more time relaxing in the house had the weather been poor. As it was, we were able to enjoy the 15 minute walk down to the village and the other local walks and paths in all directions. Visitors to Porlock shouldn't miss the views west across the Bay from Bossington Hill and Hurlestone Point, east across the marshes from the top of Porlock Toll Road and the views in all directions for Dunkery Beacon. And there are plenty of opportunities to research cream teas and other local food.

    — Jo Sutton, 14 Aug 2015
  • Cottage was superb, the welcome pack including dog treat, small gift for the children and milk for a cuppa along with other goodies was lovely and more than expected. Everything we needed was in the cottage with adults, kids and hound all catered for.
Contact from the owner before arrival was spot on with directions and cottage information.
I would recommend this property to friend and family without hesitation.
Crab catching at Porlock Weir is a must, a hike up Dunkery Hill also worthwhile. We found both the Top Ship and Bottom Ship lovely places to eat and very accommodating. Oh and a visit to The Cheese Shop is a must!

  • Had a wonderful time at Quarry Cottage. Plenty of room for four adults and two children. The garden was a great space for us too with the added bonus of swings for the young ones. We were also able to make use of the BBQ too. Lots of places to visit within a few miles, all in all a great place to stay :)

  • What a beautiful cottage - like others have said the photos don't do it justice! Every part was top notch quality from the crisp white linen on the seriously comfortable beds to the fabulous kitchen with all mod cons - but still retaining bags of character. Loads of thoughtful goodies and extras. Our dogs were so happy and the village is amazingly dog friendly - most shops had water bowls outside and treats for them too! Lovely cottage, thoughtful hosts, highly recommended! We will definitely be back! Thank you so much for our lovely break.

  • We had a wonderful break in May. The cottage was perfectly located to enjoy both the facilities in the village and the countryside walks from the back door. Some of the highlights....Superking beds, large fluffy towels, ice machine, dog treats, truly enclosed garden, great view from the lounge, comfortable kitchen, powerful shower & lots of space & pegs in the entrance hall to keep all the wet and muddy gear!! The village itself is only a 10 minute walk, so lots of food and drink choices to keep you busy!!

  • We so enjoyed this property especially as our weather was rather poor and we were unable to get out as much as we would've liked. It was also quite chilly and so the large Woodstove was most welcome. The cottage was full of character, very well equipped, masses of space and a delightful place to spend time in. Sarah, the owner, was very helpful and we appreciated the welcome pack. We found it very conveniently located (0nly .5 miles from centre of village) and very quiet. The village of Polock is a delight and I have never experienced somewhere which is so dog friendly, which makes a change. Numerous places to eat in the evening and many charming tea rooms/Cafes (particularly the Whortleberry Cafe. We enjoyed our week and will probably return to this beautiful cottage in it's fantastic setting. Thank you so much.

  • Quarry Cottage never fails to welcome - thoughtful welcome pack left by owners much appreciated, included delicious free range eggs from their own hens. Perfect place for a family gathering, plenty of space and great facilities - the owners have thought of 'every' eventuality, even when a power cut struck, battery operated torches kicked in! Delightful glass roof to part of sitting room, allowed the enjoyment of watching a very fearless but beautiful squirrel thieve all the bird food. The glass roof also allowed the sun to stream in, basking the room in delightfully warm spring sunshine. Amazing walks enjoyed by the dogs straight from front door. Needless to say, now we have found this gem, we hope to be regular visitors

  • We stayed at Quarry cottage a few weeks ago. The house is in an idyllic setting tucked into a dramatic exmoor valley yet with Porlock only a 10 minute walk away. The house itself is packed with character whilst remaining practical and comfortable. There are enough CD's, games, books and DVDs available to keep everyone entertained during bad weather, and when the rain stops there are walks up into exmoor starting right at the front door (an hours walk up the valley brings you out onto spectacular moorland). Thanks so much for the welcome pack; its those little touches that make such a huge difference. Porlock itself is well known to us, but it doesn't matter how many times you visit, it never loses its charm. The pubs are great (with our favourite constantly switching from the oak to the top ship and back again) and the typical Somerset character is packed into every inch of this lovely village.

  • Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at lovely Quarry Cottage. The cottage was perfectly and very thoughtfully equipped for us - lots of toys and DVDs for our four-year old; dog towels, bowls and treats for our two dogs; wifi, music and every home comfort we needed. We have been coming to Exmoor for more than 12 years but never stayed in Porlock before. The location of the cottage was spot on in a lovely wooded valley with loads of walks from the doorstep and just a short scooter ride to the pub, via the great children's play area.

  • We had a delightful stay at Quarry Cottage over a weekend in February.
The owners were very easy to deal with and arranged a short break without any problems. The house itself was lovely. Cosy, clean, welcoming and very well equipped. The welcome pack was very much appreciated and very thoughtful.
Lovely comfortable bedrooms, lots of bathroom space and we loved gazing at the sky through the glazed sitting room ceiling.
The drive is a bit tricky for large cars but we managed to get a Land Rover parked without too much trouble.
    Overall, highly recommended.

  • Fantastic cottage in a beautiful location.
Nothing has been left to chance in this cottage, everything you need is here.
Would not hesitate to recommend and will definatly be back again.

  • What a find – Quarry cottage is a beautiful cosy cottage, exceptionally well equipped to suit all guests. We arrived on a bitterly cold February day and immediately felt comforted, embraced by a comforting welcome and warm cottage. The spectacular wood-burning stove gave a delightful ambiance to the tastefully architected sitting room, with picturesque partially glazed roof, giving amazing views to the quarry face above. The beds are wonderfully comfortable, white linen and soft fluffy duvets, we were lulled to a restoring sleep by the soporific sound of the river and woke to the sounds of birdsong and views towards steep woodland, near to heaven as you can get. Standard of cleanliness was First class. Generous and thoughtful welcome pack giving the impression that you are a valued guest, even the dogs we included with a chewy! The village of Porlock is a 20 minute walk, a bustling village that is well served with pubs, restaurants, shops and bakery. A warm and friendly welcome was given in all hostelries and we enjoyed watching real characters and made new friends. Stunning walks just from the front door. Our departure was not tinged with sadness, we were enriched by the scent of pine trees and wood-smoke lingering in a misty valley, we knew we would be back again soon – All in all a brilliant little cottage.

  • Stunning cottage, really well equipped and in a lovely location. We stayed in feb and was so cosy with the log burner which made it hard to leave the cottage! But once you do venture out there are great walks straight from the door with an easy 10/15 mins walk to the village. We will return.

  • We rented Quarry Cottage for us, our two boys (9 and 6), grandparents and dog. We could not fault the cottage and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was decorated for Christmas, and had everything we needed, including towels and bowls for our dog. The two log burners are lovely and make the rooms feel cosy. There are numerous walks on the door step and Porlock is a lovely village (suggest you download the Porlock app, which is every handy). The cottage is situated up a narrow lane, with a rather tricky reverse turn into the drive, but this is not a problem once you get used to it. Very highly recommended.

  • I found this place by chance whilst looking for somewhere in Somerset. We'd never visited this area and were looking for somewhere different. The cottage is set on a quiet narrow lane, it has a tight entrance as I have a 4x4 but after a few times of going in and out it was ok. The cottage itself is excellent very comfortable and probably the best I've stayed in. It has everything that is needed and a bit more. The area is truly breath taking and is ideal for walking hiking and mountain biking and long dog walks. Porlock itself is a nice little village with all the amenities you need. It's a gentle walk down a steady slope into the town down the quiet lane. I would recommend this cottage to anyone and you won't be disappointed.

  • Absolutely fantastic cottage and situated in a truly peaceful idyllic setting. The cottage has everything that's needed for the family including the dog. The local walking was outstanding and the dog loved the freedom. There is a Porlock app that can be downloaded that has the local walks on it which was very informative and the waymarks are signed clearly. I'd recommend this place to anyone and will hopefully be back at some point.

  • We had a delightful short break in this lovely cottage. It is beautifully presented with lots of thoughtful extras to make your stay very comfortable. It is located in a peaceful setting but with an easy walk in to Porlock, which is a great location for exploring north Somerset and north Devon. We felt very relaxed after our three nights here and wished we could have stayed for longer!

  • Quarry Cottage is such an ideal holiday home for myself, my husband and my sister. We have absolutely loved holidaying in Porlock for many years and the cottage we enjoyed for all those years was no longer available. Well you know what they say about an ill wind' we have now found this lovely and absolutely ideal cottage for us and our two dogs. Bags of space for two cars and well fitted to a high standard. The boot room is ideal for boots, coats and dirty dogs to be cleaned up. We enjoyed our time both in the supremenly comfortable house and in the lovely sunny garden.
Tea and cakes in the garden, or a spot of wine for my husband,is our idea of bliss after a long walk...that is if you have room after all of the wonderful cream tea opportunities while out walking!

Can't wait to re book for next year!!

    thank you

  • We have stayed in many holiday rentals and this was one of the best. Wonderful, clean, comfortable, well equipped cottage in fantastic location. The lovely village with pubs and shops was just a short walk down the hill and a short walk in the other direction took us straight onto Exmoor, a great location for walking and cycling. There is a long sandy beach at Minehead but we preferred the smaller beaches at Dunster and Blue Anchor. Fantastic cream teas at Holnicote and Selworthy and great pubs in lots of the surrounding villages. We were just sorry it was not cold enough to light the woodburners and think it would be a lovely, cosy place to stay during the colder weather. We hope to return again soon.

  • Six of us (4 adults, 2 children), plus one dog and two puppies descended on Quarry Cottage for our annual pilgrimage to Somerset (been visiting annually for 20 plus years!). First time staying in Porlock and we really loved being walking distance from all the local amenities. The cottage did not disappoint, it was spotless, spacious, extremely well equipped and a real home from home. Our only difficulty was getting our 4x4 onto the drive as there is not a lot of room for manoeuvre in the road immediately outside the cottage. This was not an insurmountable problem though and got easier as the days passed!! We were very grateful that the owner was willing to accept 3 dogs too, not many places do. Very highly recommended, can't wait to visit again.

  • We booked relatively late on and thought we were extremely lucky to get get such a good holiday cottage at short notice; do book early as I am sure this place will soon be booked well in advance. The cottage is set in a very peaceful village with super facilities. Exceptionally clean and well- maintained, with everything a normal home would have. The style is crisp, modern and extremely comfortable. Beds were super comfy with lovely linen, kitchen had everything and lounge was cosy but also bright and airy. We stayed with our two grown up children and they loved it. The garden was great to sit outside in and there are plenty of pubs/ restaurants in the village which is a very picturesque 10 minute walk. Seaside at Minehead or other smaller beaches very close and big surfing beaches easily accessible by car. Highly recommended, would definitely return!
